So, to get things started today, I want to share with you guys why I chose Ohio State. I originally went here for medical school and loved my psychiatry rotation. I loved the residents, I loved the attendings. Just the culture and feel of OSU was everything that I wanted. And so I chose to stay because it felt like home, and it felt like a family. I knew I would be supported, and everything was going to be great for residency, but not all of us went to Ohio State. So, Jen Thaete from Penn State. Jen Thaete, MD: I'm Jen. I went to Penn State for undergrad and medical school. One of the things that really drew me to Ohio State, which is our sworn enemy as a Nittany Lion, was just, it's a really fun culture here. I think it's a lot of pride that people take in their hospital and their institution, and the university that they're representing. And I really felt like a part of the family here, even though we had our differences of football teams. And we rotate through the Harding Hospital, which has a couple inpatient units. We also rotate through Nationwide Children's Hospital, that has the child and adolescent units. We have a.. Jess Walpole, MD: Twin Valley. Twin Valley is our state hospital. And then we also do some rotations, kind of at the main medical center, in some of the outpatient facilities in and around Columbus. So you get a really good breadth of training here. Like I said, kind of in my little spiel, the attendings here are awesome. Really, no matter what rotation, no matter what service, they want to get you engaged. They want you to feel like you're making decisions and learning how to be a really good physician and treat patients well. Jen Thaete, MD: Yeah, and I think one of the big things that I took for granted, maybe on the interview trail, or before thinking about residency, was prioritizing my education and feeling like attendings and staff members supported me trying to learn and being a better psychiatrist moving forward, and I felt that almost every day here that my education's really a priority. And also patient care, but I think finding a really good harmony between the two of them has been something that I've really enjoyed so far. Jess Walpole, MD: But aside from working hard and taking great care of patients, we have a lot of fun here. We come to work and, you know, all of our co-residents are our friends. So, it's exciting to get to come to work and do what we love, but also have fun and hang out in the resident room and do things at work and outside of work. Do you want to say anything about the resident room? Jen Thaete, MD: Sure, that's actually where me and Jess met and became really good friends. And I think it was our first month together on intern year. Jess was on a consult service, and I was on inpatient, and we just got to talking about pets and life, and Disney. I think we all get along really, really well. We like to hang outside at work a lot, too. We do stuff like we go to Topgolf. We hang out in each other's houses for holidays, pool parties. Jess Walpole, MD: Pool parties, all the food. We have some weddings in our class coming up this year and next year. And speaking, actually, of weddings, one of my personal favorite Jen Thaete from Penn State stories. So she was actually present the day that I found my wedding dress for my wedding this fall. And, you know, I really felt the true friendship when she was the only person who was present that broke down in tears. And my father actually made fun of her for it, and I just, I really felt the love. Jen Thaete, MD: I don't regret it. Yeah, she looked beautiful. And she will look beautiful. Jess Walpole, MD: Thank you. See, this is a great place. We hope you guys all are enjoying the residency trail and wish you the best along the way. But obviously, there is one correct choice here, and that is the Ohio State University.
