[Image on screen The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center] Jonatahn Singer: Hello, and welcome aboard the OSU Wexner Medical Center's tour of Columbus. Please keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times while on tour with the psychology internship program at the Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. [Video of a car driving on the highway and taking the exit to Columbus] Living in Columbus lands you squarely in the Mideast and is in the Eastern time zone. For those that love weekend trips, we are a five-hour drive from Chicago and 7 hours from New York City. [Image on screen A map of the United States with a marker pinpointing Columbus, Ohio] The greater Columbus metro area is the 15th largest city in the US, with almost 2 million people within 30 minutes of downtown Columbus. Located in the center of the state, we lie two hours south of Cleveland and an hour and a half north of Cincinnati. [Image A map of Ohio zooming in on central Ohio] [Image on screen google maps image of the state of Ohio] Columbus is a fantastic home base for travel anywhere in the Mideast, the Midwest, and has easy commute times to the East Coast. We've been ranked one of the best places to live, raise a family, start a business, get a job, and go to school. [Image on screen The Columbus skyline during the day, with tall buildings next to a green park and river] The city of Columbus has numerous neighborhoods within city limits. Each neighborhood is dotted with cute restaurants, specialty food stores, and markets to explore. [Image on screen The Columbus city and its skyline at night with the Nationwide building reading "Welcome Fans" ] Today's tour will include snippets of Columbus and Ohio State University's Wexner Medical Center. If on-site visits were possible this year, we would have taken you on a short tour of the city to let you see some of the sites. [Image on screen A festival on a lawn with a pink setup on the stage. The lawn is filled with people who are seated, and the background is a Columbus skyline] We'd have loved to take you to a few of Columbus's main sites, like the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens indoor facility, the North Market, and the Short North. We would have loved to give you a quick driving tour through some of the other neighborhoods, like the Italian Village or German Village. [Image on screen A map showing popular neighborhoods in Columbus, showing Clintonville, Upper Arlington, University District, Grandview, Short North, Downtown, Franklinton, and German Village with the words in Pink] In the era of COVID, we're going to have to settle on a virtual tour. First up, let's head over to the botanical gardens. Make sure you have your mask. [Image on screen Atall sign in a park that says "Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens] The COVID-friendly exhibits at the Franklin Park Conservatory are a major draw for people of the area. For many of the holidays, the conservatory decorates their outdoor areas in between all of their beautiful outdoor landscaping. Year-round indoor exhibits, such as the desert, rainforest, and Pacific Island sections, offer a glimpse into some of the world's most beautiful plants. Check back every March, when hundreds of colorful butterflies fly freely in the Pacific Island Water Garden. [Images on screen A montgae of the popular events that occur over the seasons at the Franklin Park Conservatory] North Market is a 144-year-old, vibrant public market made up of over 30 of Ohio's best independent merchants, farmers, and makers. [Image on screen The outside entrance of North Market, showcasing its busy parking lot and vibrant sign] Let's take a quick peek inside the North Market, which boasts over 30 vendors and restaurants within its walls. There's truly something for everyone here. The space boasts food and beverages for every pal, with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating to enjoy local, fresh, and authentic food and wares. [Video on screen A montage of the inside of North Market, showcasing its variety of foods] Next up, we take you for a drive to one of the places that students love the most in Columbus, the Short North. This block of businesses, 91% of them local, is less than five minutes from campus. [Image on screen The cover of the Columbus 2019 fall/winter visitor magazine, listing the must-see destinations] The Short North offers more than 350 restaurants, bars, shops, and art galleries, all within a short walk or a short ride on the free Short North shuttle line. [Image on screen Montage of the streets of Short North] Can you believe that we've gone this far into the tour without mentioning the Ohio State Buckeyes, their stadium, the Shoe, or the Ohio State University Marching Band? The stadium is less than a five-minute walk from the Wexner Medical Center, with a weekly attendance of nearly 105,000 attendees at each game. [Image on screen The Shoe Stadium filled with Buckeye Fans] The players and the band always put on a great show. Get ready to do some cheering. Let's go, Buckeyes, O-H-I-O. O-H-I-O. [Video on screen An Ohio State Buckeyes football game where different sides of the stadium are cheering "O","H", "I", "O"] When not cheering on the Buckeyes, many fans can be seen at the Medical Center saving lives. [Image on screen Montage of the Wexner Medical Center, featuring the inside and outside of many of the buildings] Let's head over to the Wexner Medical Center, which is less than five minutes from the Shoe. The Wexner Medical Center is where teams of medical staff root for their patients and each other. Please do not forget to wear your white lab coat, mask, and goggles while on hospital property. Good looking out, Brutus. That guy, Brutus, always prepared. Wexner Medical Center has over 1,500 beds to care for the over 62,000 patients admitted last year. [Image on screen montage of status of Brutus and images of the inside of the Wexner Medical Center] Concurrently, more than 1.8 million outpatient appointments occurred last year, with over 190,000 of them being telehealth appointments. The Wexner Medical Center boasts an impressive amount of care. For those of you, like me, who constantly crave a coffee, let Brutus help you out at one of the more than ten places within the Medical Center to grab a cup of joe or a bite to eat. Thanks, Brutus, see you later. Harding Hospital is where most of the interns on the adult psychopathology track will be seeing patients. This includes the mood, anxiety, mindfulness rotation, and the EPICENTER rotation. All didactics are completed here as well. The clinical health psychology track has four rotations. On campus, at the Ross Heart Hospital, you will be rounding on the heart failure two service as part of the behavioral cardiology rotation.
