[Instrumental piano background music] Georgia Bishop, PhD: Hi, everyone, my name is Georgia Bishop, and I am the director of the Explorations and Neuroscience Summer Camp. We know there are many options for you, and some of them you're not even aware exist at this point. For example, Ohio State University offers over 200 undergraduate majors in a wide range of fields. Our goal is to give you an opportunity to explore one of those majors, namely neuroscience. This is one of the largest majors at OSU and prepares students for a wide range of future options, including going to graduate school or medical school. Our goal is to provide you with a fun week where you'll meet faculty engaged in neuroscience research, clinicians in neurology, psychiatry, neurosurgery, as well as graduate students who are engaged in neuroscience research. In addition, you'll get the opportunity to meet other high school students from around central Ohio with a shared interest of learning more about the nervous system. Many of the students from previous camp sessions are now undergraduate students in the neuroscience major here at OSU, so we invite you to come join us this summer for a fun week where we'll explore the field of neuroscience. Andrea Tedeschi, PhD: When I was a kid, I remember spending my summer outdoor. I loved playing in the garden of my parents' house, and spending all day running projects with insects was a fun way for me to pass the time. At that time, I never imagined that neuroscience summer camps existed. As an educator and a neuroscientist, I believe neuroscience is an important subject that can help you understand yourself better and, therefore, should be more widely taught. By participating in a neuroscience camp, you will learn how our brain works, how the brain communicates with the rest of our body, how we learn new things, how to repair the brain after trauma or disease, among many other things. And as you can imagine, these subjects really impact our everyday lives, so we should be more knowledgeable about them. I have always loved science, whether learning about insects or the structure of the brain and its function. And I do hope to pass on my passion for knowledge and my love of the brain to the next generation of scientists in schools or to you at our neuroscience camp here at the Ohio State University. India Carter: Neuroscience Camp was an absolutely amazing opportunity for me. Being able to see neuroscience labs firsthand, meeting researchers, meeting professors, it really got me super interested in neuroscience labs. So I'm currently working in one in the IBMR building, the OSU Stress and Health Lab, and hope to continue working in more neuroscience labs to come through undergrad and med school.
