'94, John Benner, MD 1967-2012

Dr. John Randall "Randy" Benner of Friedens, 44, passed away Wednesday evening, Mar. 14, 2012, at Masonic Village in Elizabethtown. Randy was a three year cancer survivor at the time of his death before he succumbed to complications related to a brain tumor.

Randy is survived by his wife, Brenda; and his parents, Dr. John and Barbara Benner, Mount Joy; sister, Laurel Ann wife of Dr. Ronald Kratz, Mount Joy; three nephews and a niece, Brandon, Nathaniel, Josiah and Hannah; and his brother, Eric, husband of Marie Benner, Trumansburg, N.Y.

Randy is pre-deceased by his brother, Keith David Benner.

Randy was the Medical Director at Siemens Lakeview Manor Estate of Somerset for more than 10 years up until two months before he passed away. Randy was a partner physician at Medical Associates of Boswell for 12 years where he also was co-medical director for In-Touch Somerset Hospice. Randy was also involved, since its inception, both as a volunteer physician and as a board member in the Somerset Community Clinic, a free clinic serving the uninsured employed.

Randy and Brenda originally relocated to the Somerset area after Randy graduated from the
Ohio State University School of Medicine in 1994 and completed his Family Practice Residency at Forbes Regional Medical Center in the Pittsburgh area.

Randy held many passions besides the practice of medicine. In addition to being an accomplished woodworker, his hobbies were golfing, board games with family and gardening. Randy was known for always having a book or two under his arm. Even during the most difficult times of his illness he was known as having an optimistic and compassionate disposition.
