'58 Alfred Stockum, M.D. (1928-2013)

Alfred E. Stockum, age 84, formerly a longtime resident of Upper Arlington, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at The Ohio State University Medical Center. He was born July 31, 1928 in New Concord, Ohio, the son of the late Emmett and Florence (Weston) Stockum. Alfred was Associate Professor of Radiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine from 1965-1995 and was granted Professor Emeritus status. His specialty was Interventional Radiology. Dr. Stockum is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Ann (Close) Stockum; brother, Donald (Ann) Stockum; sister, Reba (Courtney) Lilley; nieces and nephews, David Stockum, Sally Kraly, Bob Stockum, Susan Ledford, Linda Macklin and Terri Hiller, Chris Lilley, Steve Lilley and Jay Lilley; 17 great nieces and great nephews and many friends and colleagues. Besides his parents, Alfred was preceded in death by brother George Stockum, niece Shirley Noble and one great-nephew. He went to Mount Union College for two years and received his Bachelor of Science and Medical Degree from The Ohio State University. He served his internship and pediatric residency at St. Luke's Hospital, Cleveland, OH and his radiology residency at The Ohio State University Hospital. He also served a one year Fellowship in Pediatric Radiology at Children's Hospital, Los Angeles, CA. Veteran U.S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant serving as a radar repair instructor. He was a very active member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church since 1965, where he formerly served as an elder and in numerous other capacities in the church. Alfred's caring nature made him able to share his knowledge and positive attitude with his colleagues, students and patients. He was kind and liked by all who met him. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013 at Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 Northwest Boulevard, where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Saturday until time of service. Rev. Timothy Jones officiating. There will be a light reception following the service.
