Dr. Louis Monroe Schoettle, 87, passed away September 16, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. Lou was born in Portsmouth, Ohio, on December 4, 1925, to Louis B. and Edna H. (Thornton) Schoettle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marilyn (Schoettle) Tidrick; and daughter, Rebecca A. (Schoettle) Hempill.
Survivors include his loving wife, Miriam E. (Lett) Schoettle; sons, Louis E. Schoettle and Samuel J. Schoettle; daughters, Jeanette (Schoettle) Shirey and Rachel (Schoettle) McCoy. Grandchildren include Paula (McCoy) Wroten, Tabatha (McCoy) Newlan, Adam McCoy, Regina (Hempill) Thomas, Johanna Hempill, Andrea (Hempill) Thompson, Steve (Chip) Hempill Jr., Robert (Bo) Shirey III, Louis (Louie) N. Schoettle, Lee Schoettle, and Kayla Schoettle; and many great-grandchildren.
Lou was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a Corporal stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio. He was trained to fly B-52 Bombers and was a Carbine Sharpshooter.
Lou was an Ohio State Alumni receiving his Bachelor of Science degree in 1949 and his degree of M.D. to practice medicine and surgery in 1953. He practiced medicine in Portsmouth, Ohio, for 40 years and retired to his farm in West Portsmouth, Ohio.
