We are pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Glassman, MD, MS, to the position of chair of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Department of Orthopaedics. His new role will begin April 1, pending approval by The Ohio State University Board of Trustees.
Dr. Glassman has been serving as the interim department chair since July. He is also director of the Adult Reconstructive Surgery program and professor of Orthopaedics.
Dr. Glassman has been at Ohio State since 2004, when he joined as associate clinical professor in the Department of Orthopaedics. He became director of the Total Joint Replacement service and assumed leadership over Adult Reconstructive Surgery in 2010. Prior coming to Ohio State, Dr. Glassman was a staff surgeon with OhioHealth and senior staff surgeon at The Anderson Orthopaedic Clinic in Arlington, Virginia.
He received his medical degree from the University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences (formerly the Medical College of Ohio). He completed an internship at Los Angeles County Hospital/University of Southern California Medical Center, a residency in general surgery at Ohio State and a residency in orthopedic surgery at Riverside Methodist Hospital/Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Dr. Glassman served a fellowship in total joint replacement at the Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute.
Dr. Glassman has been president of the Washington DC Orthopaedic Society and of the Columbus Orthopaedic Society. He received the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Profession in 2012 and the Orthopaedic Educator of the Year Award in 2013. Dr. Glassman is on the editorial review panel for the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Journal of Biomechanics and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research.
His research interests focus on the knee and hip. Dr. Glassman has authored or co-authored more than 40 original articles, book chapters and abstracts and given more than 180 presentations and lectures around the world on his work.
