Paris Kingsberry, MD '14: Recent Grad Spotlight

dscn0888_resized.jpgName: Paris Kingsberry

Where are you from originally? South Bend, IN

Where was your undergraduate institution? Northwestern University

Where are you going for your residency and what is your specialty? Going back to Northwestern to work in Pediatrics at Lurie Children’s Hospital OHIO.jpg

Who was your mentor at the College of Medicine? Dr. Montoya Taylor, he’s taken me under his wing before I even started medical school and has helped me so much along the way.

What are your most thankful for in regards to your College of Medicine education? The network I have built here. I’ve met some lifelong friends and mentors and I also met the love of my life here.

What made you decide to come to Ohio State? The sense of support I felt from students and faculty. On my interview day, you really got the sense about how strong the OSU network is and that people really cared if you succeeded or not. That was the difference between OSUCOM and other programs I considered.

What advice do you have for students entering medical school at Ohio State next year who are interested in pursuing a career similar to yours? Make your own path in medical school. The people that I know that came out of medical school the happiest were the people who did what was best for them. Keep your eyes open so you take in all that medical school has to offer. Whether it means choosing a specialty you never considered, taking time off, starting guatemala2.jpega new student group, applying to programs away from family, make the decision that is best for you and your goals. Medical school can be an emotional time but at the end you can grow tremendously if you are constantly self-reflecting and have a real sense of what’s important to you.

Most memorable moment(s) at Ohio State? Delivering my first baby! I may never have the opportunity to help a woman bring new life into this world again but I will always remember my experience as a 3rd year medical student. My very first clinical rotation was OB-GYN and it was such an amazing experience to help that baby make its grand entrance into the world!

What does an ideal Sunday look like for you?  Coffee, my Bible, pajamas, and binge watching all my favorite TV shows

Hobbies? Sketching, Volleyball, Watching basketball( Go Bulls!), Murder mystery shows
