E. Wade Adams, MD (Res Grad) (1925-2014) 


Dr. E. Wade Adams M.D., 89, passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital with his family near. He was born and raised in Hammond, IN, May 3, 1925 to Elmer Wade Adams Ph. D. and Lillian Spotswood Adams. He was married to Mary "Jinx" Keyes Adams at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Chicago, IL in 1949. He enrolled at Wabash College in the Navy V12 program and earned an AB degree, graduating in 1945. The Navy then sent him to Indiana University Medical School, where he was discharged to civilian life in 1946 to continue four years of medical school. After graduating from Indiana University he took a rotating internship at the Toledo Hospital. From there, he then returned to the Navy, and served as a Lt. at Portmouth Naval Hospital. The Korean War occurred, and the Navy sent him aboard the Battleship Missouri. He finished his time in the Navy and then took his pediatric residency at Ohio State Columbus Children's Hospital. When that was finished, he came to Fort Wayne and entered the pediatrics practice with Dr. John Weber, and along with Bob Keyes helped organize the new Pediatric Department at Parkview Memorial Hospital on Randallia Ave. He later joined with Dr. David Steigmeyer and founded Fort Wayne Pediatrics in 1954. Dr. Adams was on the Board of Physician Health in its infancy. He was a teaching fellow at the Fort Wayne branch of Indiana University School of Medicine for 20 years ending as an Emeritus Faculty member. He was President of Parkview Medical Staff and served on the Board of Directors. He was the visiting pediatrician to Fort Wayne Community Schools Physically handicapped children at Brentwood School. He was also visiting pediatrician to both Fort Wayne Community Elementary Schools and what was then the State School on East State Blvd. once a week and for emergencies. At the time of his death he was on the Deans Council and Emeritus Faculty at Indiana University Medical School, Indianapolis. He retired from Fort Wayne Pediatrics in 1995 after 41 years of active practice. He was a member of the American State and Fort Wayne medical Societies, certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, and was a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He was also a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Sigma Chi Fraternity, and Fort Wayne Country Club. Surviving are his wife, Mary "Jinx" Adams of Fort Wayne; son, Wade C. (Sharon) Adams of Gibsonville, NC; son, Gregory J. (Susan) Adams of Fort Wayne; son, Dr. Mark T. (Lisa) Adams of Fort Wayne; son, Dr. Timothy C. (Pam) Adams of Indianapolis; daughter, Ann (Matt) Heminger of Portland, OR; sister, Phyllis Adams Bushnell of Orland Park, IL; grandchildren: Sarah (Ben) Schwartz, Megan (Patrick) Feeney, Elizabeth and Sam (Lisa) Adams, Brian (Michelle) Adams, Kathleen (Jeremy) Zeisloft, Kimberly Adams, Christopher, Emily, and Nicholas Adams, Melanie, Amanda, and Thomas Heminger; step- grandchildren, Casey Olnick, Michael, Matthew, and Carley Nussa.
