Philip V. Matlock, MD died peacefully at Monrovia Memorial Hospital on March 14, 2015 at the age of 86. Phil is survived by Diane, his wife of 67 years; children Sheryl (Bylle), Long Beach; Philip, Glendora; daughter-in-law Keiko, Duarte; Susan (Tim) Malczynski, Temple City; Sally (George) Bullis, Glendora; and Regina (Mike) Zambeck, Fort Worth; his grandchildren Daniel Matlock, Tim (Jaime) Malczynski, Matthew (Maureen) Malczynski, Jennifer (Josh) Orozco, Marshall Bullis, Kody Bullis, Quinn Zambeck, David Zambeck, and Ariel Zambeck; great-grandchildren Ila Rose and Jackson Malczynski, Amelia Orozco, and Bridgette Malczynski. He is preceded in death by his granddaughter Katherine Diane Matlock and his sister Regina Wadsworth. Phil was born on February 4, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio to Val and Irma Matlock. He married Diane Deshler in 1948 and graduated from Ohio State University, completing medical school in 1956. After moving to Arcadia in 1960 and completing his residency in Radiology at City of Hope in Duarte he opened his private practice in Arcadia. Phil loved baseball and spent many hours coaching his grandchildren and their Little League teams. He was always on the sidelines wearing his baseball cap, his face glowing with Bullfrog sunscreen. Phil began playing cello at an early age and was selected at age ten to play at the New York World's Fair with the Ohio Youth Orchestra in 1939. He continued to play throughout his life. He was happiest spending time with his family, and he was a passionate fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes Football team. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
