’56 James F. Mason, MD (1930-2015) 

 

Dr. James F. Mason, age 85, of Upper Arlington, died Friday, April 17, 2015 at Friendship Village of Dublin. He was born January 19, 1930 in Wadsworth, OH to the late W. Horace and Frances (Deshler) Mason. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years, Shirley Strickland Mason, on March 15, 2015. He was an "old school" physician practicing in Upper Arlington for over 60 years. He founded Northwest Family Physicians and concluded his career developing Worthington Industries Medical and Wellness Center. Survived by children, Bill (Kris) Mason, of Upper Arlington and their children, Jim, Mike and Mary; Tom (Donna) Mason, of Upper Arlington, and their children, Jackie, Kelly, Will, and Lauren; Jayne (Cleve) Coldwater, of Clarks Summit, PA, and their children, Mason, Connor, Dalton and Hollis; Bob (Laurie) Mason, of Upper Arlington, and their children, Brooks and Mitch. He was a graduate of Denison University, where he was a member of the Alpha Eta Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. A longtime member of First Community Church; past President and devoted member of Scioto Country Club; one of the founders of the Upper Arlington Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was the Upper Arlington High School football team physician for over 40 years; past President and member of UA Boosters Club and member of Upper Arlington Civic Association. Inaugural recipient of the UA Chamber of Commerce Golden Gala Award and a Board member of Ohio Health. Above all else, he was a kind and caring gentlemen and a devoted physician, husband, father and grandfather.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Ohio Health Foundation, 180 E. Broad St., 31st Floor, Columbus, OH 43215-3707 or to Upper Arlington Rotary Club, P.O. Box 12013, Columbus, OH 43212, in his memory.
