The Ohio State University Center for RNA Nanobiotechnology and Nanomedicine will host the First Conference on Biomotors, Virus Assembly, and Nanobiotechnology Applications from August 16-19, 2017, at The Ohio State University Fawcett Center. More than 70 of the world's leading scientists and engineers working in the diverse fields of chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, structural biology, microbiology, cell biology, materials, and nanotechnology will participate. Due to the great potential in the application of biomotors and viral components in nanotechnology, the conference will promote the participation of more bioscientists into the nanobiotechnology field. The cross-disciplinary approach to virus assembly, biomotor, and nanobiotechnology research is designed to foster collaborations among scientists. Dr. Peixuan Guo, Director of the Center for RNA Nanobiotechnology and Nanomedicine and Sylvan G. Frank Endowed Chair in Pharmaceutics and Drug Delivery for the College of Pharmacy is the conference chair. Dr. Guo is among the top nanobiotechnology experts in the world and holds a joint appointment in the College of Medicine’s Department of Physiology & Cell Biology. Dr. Guo’s focus on nanobiotechnology, or the biological study and application of extremely small (between 1 to 100 nanometers) elements, has opened doors to new discoveries. He constructed the first viral DNA packaging motor in vitro (PNAS, 1986); discovered phi29 motor pRNA (Science, 1987); assembled infectious dsDNA viruses (J Virology, 1995); discovered pRNA hexamer (Mol Cell, 1998, featured in Cell); and pioneered RNA nanotechnology (Mol Cell, 1998; JNN, 2003; Nano Letter, 2004, 2005; Nature Nanotechnology 2010, 2011).
