BMI Talk: Dr. Jing Zhao "Statistical Method Application and Development in Analysis of Biomedical Data"
Start: 12/6/2018 1:00:00 PM
End: 12/6/2018 2:00:00 PM
Location: Lincoln 245

The advent of much-improved biotechnology and the decreased associated cost have generated a massive amount of biological and biomedical data. Using statistical methods adapted to a specific research question leads to improved precision and power of analysis results. In this talk, I will first introduce my education and training in developing the statistical phylogenetic model. The phylogenetic model for gene duplication and loss has the potential to depict evolutionary novelties, predict the function of new genes and identify disease-related genes. Then I will talk about my working experience where I have practiced my statistical knowledge in actively working with scientists from biomedical, clinical and population health research areas. Through these collaborations, I have secured multiple collaborative grants and publications. Finally, I will briefly introduce my independent research in quantifying toxic nephropathy in the Great Plains.
