Dr. Lai is an associate professor of Biomedical Informatics and Chief Research Information Officer at Washington University St. Louis. Prior to joining Washington University St. Louis, Dr. Lai was an assistant professor at The Ohio State University, Department of Biomedical Informatics, 2010 - 2016.

Dr. Lai earned his PhD in Biomedical Informatics from Columbia University, where his research focused on remote training of older adults to use the IDEATel telemedicine system. He also received bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
