​Dr. Rothwell is an assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in the College of Medicine and a member of The Center for the Advancement of Team Science, Analytics, and Systems Thinking (CATALYST​). His research examines 1) the interpersonal communication in health care (patient-provider and provider-provider) and 2) human-computer interaction for healthcare IT with a focus on natural language interaction. His work makes theoretical contributions to our understanding of communication processes as well as the applied impact of these processes on clinical and patient outcomes. 
 
Previously, Dr. Rothwell spent 8 years in a variety of roles engaging in human factors research with the 711th Human Performance Wing at the Air Force Research Laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, focusing on the collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence technologies. He received his PhD in Human Factors and Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio
