As the Assistant to the Vice Chairs in the Department of Biomedical Informatics, Gabrielle provides administrative and programmatic support to Dr. Soledad Fernández. As a part of her duties, she coordinates all faculty promotion & tenure and review processes, faculty mentorship and recruitment, coordinates clinical research activities on behalf of Dr. Embi - Interim Chair, and interacts with collaborative departments across the university, national and international communities on departmental leadership's behalf.
Gabrielle serves as the primary point of contact for all education-related activities in our department, including all BMI courses, our NLM-funded fellowship program, biomedical informatics masters programs, the online certificate of completion, the AMIA 10x10 course, biomedical informatics summer internship program, and many others.
She handles academic advising and career counseling for the trainees in BMI and manages the hiring process for trainees, postdoctoral scientists, and visiting scholars.
Gabrielle plans departmental events that are educational, operational, or research-oriented in nature, including grand rounds, training workshops, research seminars and journal clubs, and departmental retreats. She manages the department's online presence, including the website, events, and all marketing related activities.
Gabrielle started her position in the Department of Biomedical Informatics in 2014. Prior to joining the department, she was the Assisant to the Dean of the Sackler School at Tufts University in Boston and was the Office Manager of the English department at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh. She received her Master of Art degree in Social and Public Policy and her Bachelor of Art degree in Psychology and English from Duquesne University.
