​Dr. Ümit V. Çatalyürek is an adjunct professor in the Departments of Biomedical Informatics and was part of the OSU community from 2001 - August 2016. Prior to joining Georgia Institute of Technology, he was a professor and vice chair of academic affairs in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at The Ohio State University and worked at Johns Hopkins University as a Research Associate and at the University of Maryland as a visiting research scientist. Dr. Çatalyürek is a recipient of a NSF CAREER award and is the primary investigator of several awards from the Department of Energy, National Institute of Health, and National Science Foundation. He was the founding general chair of the 1st ACM International Health Informatics Symposium in 2010, and the workshops' chair of IPDPS 2010-2013. Dr. Çatalyürek also serves on the editorial board of the following journals: Parallel Computing, SIAM Journal of Scientific Computing, Parallel and Distributed Computing, and Network Modeling and Analysis in Health Informatics and Bioinformatics; and on the program committees and organizing committees of several international conferences. He is a member of ACM, SIAM, and is a senior member of IEEE. Dr. Çatalyürek has co-authored over 150 peer-reviewed articles, and his main research areas are in high performance computing, combinatorial scientific computing and biomedical informatics.​ Dr. Çatalyürek received his Ph.D. in 2000 from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey.
