Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI)

The Faculty Leadership Institute is for any potential practitioner, scientist or educator who desires to improve his or her leadership skills to proactively adapt to rapid advances in healthcare. This program is particularly well suited for faculty who aspire to formal leadership positions in academic medicine or a hospital system. The following topics will be addressed in class over a 12-month period: leadership, strategy and business planning, problem solving, financial management, communications, building effective teams, leading change, negotiations and conflict management, talent management and human resources, quality of care, the patient experience and health care law. The program concludes with project presentations.

Mission:

The FAME Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI) is a foundational 12-month program designed to develop and strengthen leadership skills of faculty to drive and manage change and execute organizational strategy.

FLI Program requirements:

The Faculty Leadership Institute will meet once a month for educational seminars and exercises, scheduled from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. generally on the third Thursday of each month at the Eye & Ear Institute, room 3000 (modifications for holidays or important conflicting events may be needed). The program will extend for a total of 12 sessions.

Attendance:
Participants are required to attend at least 90 percent or 10 sessions. Absence from any session must be approved by the course directors. No unexcused absences are permitted. After two absences or missing assignments, we require a meeting with the participant and develop a plan for avoiding any further absences. On average, it is estimated that up to 10 hours a month will be required for optimum participation.

Engagement:
Participants are expected to fully engage in the program, including the completion of assigned preparation for sessions and execution of all required exercises, activities and projects.

How to Apply:

A call for applications will be emailed to all College of Medicine faculty members as well as advertised in several issues of the Faculty Matters newsletter. Once the application window opens, applicants will need to fill out an application and send their current CV before the deadline date.

The Faculty Leadership Institute (FLI), will begin its next class in September 2019.  Applications for the 2019 course will be solicited beginning in March 2019.
