The Ohio State University College of Medicine is pleased to announce that Don Benson, MD/PhD, has been selected by the 2012 graduating class as Professor of the Year. Through his work in the department of hematology, Benson was not only a great teacher, but reached out to the students in a caring and friendly way.
In the words of the 2012 Student Council, Benson’s “passion for his work, excellent teaching, and kindness to us will be well remembered.”
He will join the group of familiar portraits in Meiling Hall (previous POYs) and be featured as the keynote speaker for the class of 2012 Hooding Ceremony.
The OSU College of Medicine June 7, Convocation event kicks off with a morning hooding rehearsal for the graduating class, followed by a barbecue lunch in the south plaza of Meiling Hall for graduating students, families and friends. The mid-day honors convocation, to be held in the Ohio Union at 2:00 p.m., will recognize outstanding students from the graduating class for their leadership, academic excellence, committment to professionalism and service to patients, as well as faculty for their excellence in teaching. The long-honored hooding ceremony begins at 7: 40 p.m. with a procession from the Ohio State University Faculty Club, across the Oval to Mershon auditorium, where graduating seniors will receive the traditional hood denoting scholarly and professional achievement.
