The Ohio State University College of Medicine Chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society (GHHS) has been awarded first place for the 2014 inaugural GHHS Chapter Awards. The Ohio State chapter was chosen from among the 113 GHHS chapters nationally.
The GHHS Chapter Award is given every other year based on four key factors - impact, learning environment and research, service activities, and leadership. The OSU GHHS Chapter is dedicated to recognize, support and promote the values of humanism and professionalism in medicine. The members are committed to working within and beyond medical education to inspire, nurture and sustain lifelong advocates and activists for patient-centered medical care.
Members of the chapter participate in service projects such as a field day for the Boys and Girls Club, A holiday giving tree, and Solidarity Day, a time to say thank you to all of the care givers in our hospitals. Members also participate in projects with the other Honor Societies (Alpha Omeg Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Landacre Research Society) as members of the Honor Society Consortium. They also collaborate with first and second year Humanism in Medicine students to promote the healing aspects of the arts.
As part of the GHHS award, The Ohio State University College of Medicine GHHS chapter will receive $3,000, a commemorative plaque, and recognition at this year GHHS Biennial Conference.
