Congratulations to Andrew Nashed, MD, resident of Internal Medicine, for receiving a Back to Bedside grant from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Back to Bedside is a resident-led initiative encouraging medical trainees to create new projects that provide them with the opportunity to spend time with the patients at their bedside.
Dr. Nashed’s project is entitled, “Pick a Card, Any Card!” The team assembled to develop this project includes Nadav Klein, MD, Hera Kamdar, MBBS, Jasneet Devgun, DO, Yubo (Jeremy) Tan, Michelle Gillespie, MD, Serena Hua, MD, and Brittany Shrefler, MD. They all represent the four largest departments in the hospital: Internal Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry and Emergency Medicine.
The card game will be utilized by a diverse range of patients among these five services: inpatient Neurology, Psychiatry, Emergency, Internal Medicine and one outpatient Internal Medicine service. One patient will be randomly chosen from each service each week for 16 weeks from a total of 80 patients between the intervention and control groups.
The ACGME is an organization that sets the standards in quality physician care and performance. They selected only 33 proposals from nearly 200 submissions across the nation. Dr. Nashed and his team are the only Ohio State residents to participate in the initiative for the 2019-2021 period.
Please congratulate recipient Dr. Nashed and his team for their success in earning this valuable grant. Such work will ultimately improve the clinical learning environment for the well-being of both patients and physicians alike.
