Research Interest

My research program focuses on understanding the underlying mechanisms of apoptosis. Dysregulation of apoptosis is involved in the pathophysiology of several inflammatory diseases, including cancer, CVD and obesity. The long-term goal of our research is to gain a better understanding of the basic molecular mechanisms that control cellular lifespan. Towards this goal, we investigate the regulatory networks that control caspases and identify new approaches to eliminate unwanted cells. Additionally, we investigate the mechanisms underlying the anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory action of dietary plant metabolites. Protein-small molecule target identification, genome-wide analyses, in combination with biochemical, cellular and animal models are used to define the role of dietary metabolites in the prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases.
