Cell-Based Therapies

Medical researchers at Ohio State are working to understand the use of cell-based therapies, and anticipate using technologies derived from stem cell research to treat a wider variety of diseases including cancer, diabetes, Parkinson's disease, acute and chronic myocardial ischemia, spinal cord injuries, inflammatory diseases and muscle damage, amongst a number of other impairments, injuries and conditions. Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth. These cells also have the tremendous capacity to undergo regeneration in response to injury. The goal of cell-based therapies research is to discover substantial contributions on health and welfare of patients, both human and veterinary.
