The Ohio State University College of Medicine Grants Management Office (GMO)

Tina Adathakkar, CRA

Tina Adathakkar is a senior grants and contracts specialist, post-award, for the Grants Management Office. Tina has been working in research administration for over fifteen years. Before coming to Ohio State five years ago, she worked as a senior manager of sponsored programs in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami in Miami, Florida. She has experience in both pre- and post-award grants, contracts and clinical trials management. Tina is a Certified Research Administrator through the National Research Administrators Certification Council.

Lori Arnold

Lori Arnold is a post-award fiscal officer for the Grants Management Office. Lori had previously been with the Dorothy M. Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute for over six years, serving as the institute’s fiscal officer and delegated buyer. Lori moved to her post-award position in 2014. With her fiscal experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the post-award team.

Diana Burdette, CRA

Diana Burdette is a grants and contracts specialist, pre-award, for the Grants Management Office. Diana has over eight years of research administration experience and 18 years of program development and administration experience. She recently relocated back to Ohio from Lexington, Kentucky where she worked for eight and a half years as a college grants officer at the University of Kentucky, serving the College of Communication and Information Studies as well as filling in for the College of Health Sciences and the College of Medicine when needed. Prior to the University of Kentucky, Diana was project director for 18 years over a large state contract at Eastern Kentucky University from the Kentucky Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. She both administered the contract and also helped develop and monitor the statewide Early Intervention Program.

Amy Butala, MBA, CRA

Amy Butala is a post-award fiscal officer for the Grants Management Office. Amy has over twelve years of research experience having worked as a clinical research assistant, multisite coordinator and grants manager in the College of Medicine at Wayne State University and as a clinical trials financial healthcare consultant for the Department of Hematology and Oncology at the University of Michigan. Amy joined the GMO in July 2014 and currently specializes in post-award fiscal management.

Christopher Day, CRA

Christopher Day is a senior grants and contracts specialist, pre-award, in the Grants Management Office. Chris joined the GMO in 2015 and has over seven years of research administration experience. Prior to coming to Ohio State, Chris served as a departmental research administrator for Portland State University for three years. Before his time in Portland, Chris was a grants and contracts assistant at Concord University, his alma mater, in southern West Virginia, where he earned his BA in Sociology.

Amanda Gibbs, CRA

Amanda Gibbs is a grants and contracts administrator and pre-award team lead for the Grants Management Office. Upon graduating from The Ohio State University in 2005, Amanda worked at the state legislature in the Ohio House of Representatives for more than two years. She returned to her alma mater in April 2008. Before coming to the GMO in 2013, she was a senior sponsored program officer with the Office of Sponsored Programs.

Dana Glenn, MA, CRA

Dana Glenn is the director of the Grants Management Office. Since coming to Ohio State in 2004, Dana has worked as a senior sponsored program officer in the Office of Sponsored Programs, as a grants manager in the College of Arts and Sciences and has now been with the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute/College of Medicine Grants office for nine years. Dana is a Certified Research Administrator through the National Research Administrators Certification Council.

Alicia Griffin, MA, CRA

Alicia Griffin is a grants and contracts administrator and post-award team lead in the Grants Management Office. Alicia has been working in research administration since she was an undergraduate student here at Ohio State and has over nine years of experience in both pre- and post-award grants and contract management. She previously worked as a pre-award grants manager for the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute Grants Office for four years and as a post-award grants manager for two years at the School of Biomedical Sciences before moving to her current position with the College of Medicine Grants Management Office in 2013. Alicia completed her master’s degree in Public Policy and Management from The Ohio State University John Glenn College of Public Affairs in May 2015.

Katrina Gustafson

Katrina Gustafson is a senior grants and contracts specialist, pre-award for the Grants Management Office. Katrina joined the team in November 2016 and has over eleven years of experience in research administration. She came to the GMO from Battelle Memorial Institute, where she worked as an ID/IQ specialist/proposal coordinator for nearly four years and as a subcontracts representative for over a year. Prior to Battelle, she served as a grants manager in the College of Public Health for six years and in the School of Communication for over a year. Katrina relocated to Ohio in 2003 from Maryland, where she worked for the Department of Health and Human Services in Rockville at the Division of Cancer Epidemiology and Genetics at the National Cancer Institute in a research support position for three years and at the Food and Drug Administration in legislative affairs and human resources for two years.

Ana Herrera

Ana Herrera is a senior grants and contracts accountant for the Grants Management Office. She joined the post-award team in February 2017. Prior to her arrival at Ohio State, she worked for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) from which she graduated in 2012. While at UCLA, Ana worked for the David Geffen School of Medicine department of Hematology and Oncology managing pre- and post-clinical trials for a year and a half. From there, she transitioned to the Semel Institute of Neuroscience and Human Behavior where she managed post-award grants for three and a half years.

Alex Hudson, MBA

Alex is a grants and contracts associate, post-award for the Grants Management Office. He worked as a senior accountant in the Office of Sponsored Programs in the accounts payable area for four years before joining the GMO in the fall of 2016. Alex has experience in the e-Request and e-Travel systems and has a broad familiarity with university and federal regulations governing grant management.

Tessily Mays

Tessily Mays is a grants and contracts associate for the Grants Management Office. Tess previously worked as a research associate and lab manager in the lab of Jill Rafael-Fortney, PhD, lab for nearly 10 years before taking time to focus on her family. She returned to Ohio State in June 2017 to join the pre-award team in the Grants Management Office.

Richard (Rico) Paige

Richard Paige is a grants and contracts associate for the Grants Management Office. Rico is a 2013 graduate of The Ohio State University. As an undergrad, Rico was a student worker for the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute as the shared equipment assistant. A few years after graduation, Rico returned to Ohio State to work in the Grants Management Office. He is currently working in both pre- and post-award, managing all NIH progress reports and JIT requests. He has been working in Grants Administration for almost a year.

Erin Scott, CRA

Erin Scott is a senior grants and contracts specialist, pre-award, for the Grants Management Office. Erin joined the team in July 2017, has over fourteen years of experience in research administration and is a Certified Research Administrator through the Research Administrators Certification Council. She came to the GMO from Ferris State University (FSU), where she worked as the pre-award grants officer for the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. Prior to FSU, she provided consulting services to many K-12 schools as well as universities in northwest Ohio. Erin also held senior-level sponsored-program officer positions at the University of Cincinnati and The Ohio State University Office of Research. She is excited to return to her alma mater and be a part of the GMO team.

Andrew Widanka, MBA

ndrew Widanka is a post-award fiscal officer for the Grants Management Office. Prior to joining the GMO, Andrew worked in several different capacities at the University of Rochester and has over five years’ experience in research administration. Andrew earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting at the State University of York at Oswego and an MBA from the Simon Business School at the University of Rochester.

Sunny Zong, MBA, CPA

Sunny Zong is a post-award fiscal officer for the Grants Management Office. Before joining GMO in April 2017, Sunny served as the sponsored program officer with the College of Engineering for nearly two and a half years and was responsible for her assigned constituency’s proposal submission, pre-award contract negotiation and post-award monitoring with a variety of sponsors including federal/state agencies, NGOs and industry. Prior to that, as the program manager, she directed administrative and fiscal operation for federally sponsored programs within the College of Arts and Sciences for 10 years, with a total research funding around $20 million and an operation over seven cities in four East Asian countries. With a master’s degree in Human Research Management and an MBA in Accounting, Sunny is also a Certified Public Accountant in both the state of Ohio and China.
