Research Description 1: My laboratory work is on neurprotective mechanisms post stroke, cardiac arrest and traumatic brain injury. Currently we are working on testing a novel molecule and its neuroprotective effects after traumatic brain injury in rats. We postulate that this new drug will decrease extent of cerebral edema and enhance neuronal count after TBI in rats.

Research Description 2: The Stroke and Neurocritical Care Division is currently actively involved in a multitude of clinical trials focusing on the acute management of stroke and traumatic brain injury. We are investigating the role of aggressive glucose control in acute stroke. In traumatic brain injury we are looking at the neuroprotective effective of progesterone in acute TBI.

Specific areas of Research Emphasis: Emergency Medicine; Trauma; Neuroscience

Research Description: I am interested in understanding the outcome and symptomatology of neurological insults by applying advanced neuroimaging tools and analytical methods. I am currently doing projects using MRI technology to understand the outcome of stroke and white matter disease in addition to other acute neurological insults. The aim is to develop novel tools for mapping the brain structure and function in the disease state.

Specific areas of Research Emphasis: Critical Care; Neurologic Disorders; Neuroscience
