We Lost a Friend of Ohio State's Heart and Vascular ProgramAugust, 2015 marked the passing of one of the most long-standing supporters of the Ohio State Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, Elizabeth M. “Libby” Ross. Mrs. Ross was a 1940 graduate of Ohio State.
Libby's contributions to Ohio State were extraordinary. She was so proud of the state-of-the-art facility that her visionary gift helped to create, the Richard M. Ross Heart Hospital, but she was even more proud of the people who work here and make it such a special place.
Her Vision Made Extraordinary Heart Care a RealityAs the namesake of the Ross Heart Hospital, Mrs. Ross created the vision and opportunity for us to provide the exceptional level of care we perform every day, impacting the lives of countless heart and vascular patients and their families over the past decade.
Mrs. Ross served on the Ross Heart Hospital Board and provided the funding to name the Ross Heart Hospital in memory of her late husband, Richard “Dick” M. Ross (BA Fine Art, 1938). Mr. Ross served as president of Ross Laboratories, founded in 1903 by his father and a business partner. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Ross had four children: Sally, Marcia, Dick Jr. and Alex. Mrs. Ross was a grateful patient and friend of Ohio State cardiologist, Dr. James Ryan.
Mrs. Ross has given nearly $16 million in support of heart and vascular care at Ohio State. Most recently, she gave $1 million to establish The Elizabeth M. Ross Cardiovascular Nursing Education and Leadership Fund to provide career development opportunities for nurses at Ohio State.
