What is Mental Prep for Step? Mental Prep for Step is an award-winning wellness initiative that is available to second year students at the College of Medicine. Given the high stakes nature of this exam and what we have observed historically in terms of student needs in preparation for this exam, we know that you need not only academic preparation but also mental preparation to be successful.  Participants will gain timely skills that will prepare them for both the academic and psychologic rigors of the USMLE Step 1 exam. Below are workshops and sessions that are designed by experts to prepare and stay mentally strong.

USMLE Step 1 Study Plan Development workshops

This workshop is presented by academic counselor, Kelly-Ann Perry, M.Ed.  The USMLE Step 1 Study Plan is a comprehensive document that seeks to address each student’s individual strengths, weaknesses and study goals. The Step 1 study plan presentation is an interactive session that will provide second year students with step-by-step instructions on how to develop a personalized plan. Integrated throughout the presentation are tips and strategies that are designed to make the study process meaningful. By the end of the session, students will have a working sample study plan, upon which they can expand. Workshops will occur every Friday, from January 18th - February 15th from 1-2:30pm in 1167 Graves Hall. Space is limited. To participate, refer to Kelly-Ann’s email sign up.

USMLE Step 1 Mentor/Tutor Program
Interested second-year students are matched with third-and fourth-year mentors or tutors who provide guidance and support during the USMLE Step 1 study block. Mentors understand that studying for Step 1 can be stressful, so upper-class mentors avail themselves to answer questions regarding study strategies, study material, etc., and reinforce good self-care habits. To participate, refer to Kelly-Ann’s email sign up.

Mental Prep for Step Kick-Off Workshop

This workshop is presented by Dr. Justin Barterian and is a preview of what our small group workshops will look like.  It is also meant to provide YOU M2 Students with quick, evidence-based tips to continue your studying and for managing both test and generalized anxiety.
