Leading in Global Health Together (LIGHT)

Purpose: The purpose of Leading in Global Health Together (LIGHT) is to design, educate, and synthesize the current resources offered at The Ohio State University and Columbus to empower students and faculty to build ethical, self-sustaining global health partnerships.

We focus on:
1. AWARENESS: Delivering student- and faculty-led talks on the physician's role in global health and equity.
2. SCHOOL SUPPORT: Working with the medical school's Global Health Office and the Global One Health initiative based in the School of Veterinary Medicine to make resources more available to students and promote greater global health emphasis in the curriculum.
3. STUDENT PANELS: Hosting panels of former students who completed the Global Health Elective in their M4 year.
4. SPEAKERS: Promoting the global health mission by bringing in global health leaders from the community to speak.
5. VOLUNTEERING: Cultivating a culture of volunteerism through serving at Community Refugee and Immigration Services (CRIS) and other organizations in Columbus.
6. SCHOLARSHIPS: Raising money to build scholarships for students to go on global health medical mission or research trips.
7. COLLABORATION: Promoting and collaborating with other student orgs doing global health work like PODEMOS and R4WH so they can support students and global efforts.
8. STUDENT RESOURCES: Building a one-stop online resource that students can use to find summer research, fellowships, winter brigades, and other global health opportunities on- and off-campus, as well as an email newsletter to highlight global health opportunities, student leaders, and work from OSU.
