Peter Lee, MD, PhD, MPH, received a K08 award from National Institute of General Medical Sciences for “Tissue Engineered Skeletal Muscle Delivering a Myokine Protein to Treat Volumetric Muscle Loss.”

Bryan Whitson, MD, PhD, will receive a new R01 grant from National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute on the topic of “Preservation and Rescue of the Lung Donor Allograft for Transplantation.”

Hua Zhu, PhD, recently had two papers accepted by Acta Pharmacologica Sinica and Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry regarding cancer immune checkpoint blockade therapy and activating Akt/NOS to inhibit autophagy and promote angiogenesis, respectively. View PubMed

Kristyn Gumpper, a graduate student in Dr. Ma’s laboratory, received a pre-doctoral fellow from the American Heart Association. 

William Carson, MD, received the Give 18 Fore Cancer Research Award given to leading doctors and scientist to support critical cancer research projects. His 2017-2018 cancer research led to the publication of articles in Cancer Immunology Immunotherapy, Cancer Immunology Research, Proceedings from the National Academy of Sciences, International Immunology and Cancer.
