In her latest posting, Sally Rockey, NIH's Deputy Director for Extramural Research, explores the commonly held assumption that proposals reviewed by the Center for Scientific Review have a worse chance of getting funded than those reviewed by another NIH institute or center. Although it is true that the overall funding rate for proposals reviewed by CSR is lower than those reviewed by other ICs, she finds that this comparison is misleading. Funding rates for R01s and for proposals submitted in response to RFAs are essentially identical.
