Richard Gumina, MD, PhD, serves as the associate dean for Convergent Research, as well as associate professor of Internal Medicine, is a National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded physician-scientist and an active interventional cardiologist. As the associate division director for Research, he works closely with the Center for Clinical Research Management and Clinical Trials and the Clinical Research Center to advance the translational and clinical research mission within cardiovascular medicine and the institution. Dr. Gumina currently leads the cardiovascular and STOP-COVID biorepositories, which incorporate a cross-disciplinary approach to advancing research across the medical center. As associate dean for Convergent Research, he builds strategies and infrastructure that expand translational research to support our health missions. He also oversees compliance related to human subjects research in the College of Medicine.

Paco Herson, PhD, is an experienced academic neuroscientist with a long-standing interest in translational research focused on therapies to reduce cell death and improve functional outcomes following cerebral ischemia, critical illness and injury. He serves as the associate dean for Research Innovation and oversees the Office of Research Innovation (ORI) to provide strategic vision and oversight related to technology, commercialization and external relationships. The ORI interacts with faculty, staff and learners to assist in education, intellectual property protection, early stage research and development, technology licensing, start-up formation and marketing. The ORI is a strong partner to all College of Medicine employees as they navigate the technology and commercialization process, amplifying the resources of the University and providing accountability and guidance.

Timothy Huerta, PhD, MS, serves as the associate dean for Research Information Technology, as well as a professor of Family and Community Medicine and Biomedical Informatics, the informatics lead for the Center for Clinical and Translation Science (CCTS), and is a senior member of the Center for the Advancement of Team Science, Analytics and Systems Thinking (CATALYST). As an NIH-, Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ)- and National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded scientist, he directs implementation science for the HEALing Communities Study, a $62M community-based opioid mortality reduction research study (one of the most significant grants at Ohio State), serves as the informatics lead for a study on traumatic brain injury documentation that involves hospitals from over 15 academic medical centers and leads a statewide project focused on reducing disparities in infant mortality in Ohio. In his role, Dr. Huerta supports strategy to align the growth of information technology for both the medical center and the college. He oversees and manages research technology for the college’s departments, institutes, and centers, increase faculty and staff engagement related to research informatics, build informatics platforms and data sources, and increase informatics-related innovation.

Dana McTigue, PhD, professor of Neuroscience at the College of Medicine, serves as the associate dean for Foundational Research. She currently serves in a leadership role in the Belford Center for Spinal Cord Injury and as the vice chair for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion of her department. In her role, Dr. McTigue serves to support strategy to expand research in the basic sciences. She supports research proposal submission, research space governance and assignment, training grant data collection and oversight of vice chairs of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the basic science departments.

Loren E. Wold, PhD, FAHA, FAPS, is a Professor in the Division of Cardiac Surgery of the Department of Surgery in the College of Medicine and serves as the associate dean for Research Operations and Compliance. In this role, Dr. Wold supports research compliance, research development, research agreements and strategic recruiting, as well as relations with College of Medicine Office of Faculty Affairs and Strategic Operations. He is also responsible for directing the research bridge and pilot programs for the College of Medicine and Wexner Medical Center. Dr. Wold is also the Editor-in-Chief of The FASEB Journal.

Julie Johnson, PharmD, is director of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS), serves as associate dean for Clinical and Translational Research in The Ohio State University College of Medicine and and is associate vice president of Research for The Ohio State University. She also holds the Dr. Samuel T. and Lois Felts Mercer Professorship of Medicine and Pharmacology. As director of the CCTS, Dr. Johnson will serve as the PI of a seven-year $37.9 million Clinical and Translation Science Award from the NIH.
