Introducing The Ohio State University’s New Genetic Counseling and Bioethics Dual Degree Program
The Ohio State University Genetic Counseling Graduate Program, in partnership with Bioethics Graduate Program are excited to announce the launch of a new dual master’s degree. As personalized healthcare and precision medicine become more prevalent aspirations in the healthcare community, and the growing complexity of genetic information and its accessibility, ethical dilemmas arise for providers. Advancements in genetics continue to reshape healthcare, and the need for professionals who are not only skilled genetic counselors, but also well-versed in bioethical considerations has never been more relevant.
With this dual master’s degree, graduates will have the expertise to advocate for patients, ensure ethical practices in genetic testing, and contribute to policy discussions surrounding genetic information at all levels. As the landscape of healthcare evolves, The Ohio State University stands at the forefront of preparing professionals who are equipped to lead in all facets of the genetic counseling profession.
Students will complete the full courseload for the MS in Genetic Counseling and add at least 15 additional hours in Bioethics courses. In order to fulfill the research component, most students will have the ability to combine their research in genetic counseling and bioethics into one thesis project.
