About

Biography

My research examines challenges with thought organization and communication in people living with psychosis spectrum conditions. In this work, I study how individuals search for related concepts, connect ideas, and translate them into spoken language, with an emphasis on how these processes go awry in psychosis. I use computational linguistic methods and interdisciplinary frameworks, such as animal foraging theories, to better understand how individuals balance exploration and exploitation while navigating and retrieving related concepts from memory. I use neuroscientific approaches to investigate how the brain supports these processes, with a focus on cerebellar contributions to coordinating thought and speech and electrophysiological markers of semantic search. Finally, my research in this area explores how individuals construct and communicate personal narratives, such as their life stories, to others.

The goal of my research is to support the development of new, more effective treatments that improve individuals’ capacity to integrate thought and language. Ultimately, this work aims to enhance the social functioning, insight, personal agency, and long-term recovery of people with psychosis spectrum disorders.
