About

Biography

I am Rui Liang, MD, assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. My lab is dedicated to understanding interactions between medical implants and host responses. My research focuses on understanding why women with diabetes may face a higher risk of complications after surgical mesh implantation. I am particularly interested in investigating how diabetes affects foreign body immune responses, tissue healing, and implant integration. The long-term goal of my work is to develop more targeted strategies to improve surgical and implant outcomes for patients at higher risk.

In my laboratory, we use advanced tissue, cellular, and molecular approaches, including multiplex assays, RNA sequencing, and flow cytometry, as well as animal models for diabetes and pelvic surgery. My background in clinical practice, bioengineering, and basic science helps me approach these questions from multiple perspectives and connect laboratory findings with clinically meaningful problems.
