About
Biography
I received residency and fellowship training in the Physican Sceintist Training Program (PSTP) in Nephrology at MetroHealth/Case Western Reserve University. After my fellowship training, I joined as a faculty at the MetroHealth System from 2013-2018 and then joined OSU in 2018 in the Division of Nephrology. I am interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of kidney chronic kidney disease pathogenesis and progression, particularly in the context of glomerular diseases.
My research over the past decade has focused on understanding the mechanisms by which variants in the APOL1 gene mediate the pathogenesis of CKD. Currently, my lab uses cultured immortalized human podocytes, human kidney biopsies, and transgenic mouse models to understand the mechanisms of APOL1 variant-mediated kidney disease. My laboratory is well equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and I have developed a collaborative approach to perform the proposed experiments.
My research is now focused on understanding how APOL1 variant proteins cause podocyte dysfunction by causing peroxisomal stress and developing therapeutic targets to mitigate APOL1 variant-associated CKD.
