Through her innovative thinking and ability to collaborate with professionals in other healthcare-related fields, Dr. Camilla Curren enhances healthcare education for both patients and healthcare students.
Currently, Dr. Curren is working with a multi-disciplinary team on research that will enhance the quality of life of humans and their animal counterparts. Recognizing the multiple health benefits that both people and animals experience when pets are included in the household, Dr. Curren is teaming up with Assistant Professor Jason Stull in Ohio State’s Department of Veterinary Preventive Medicine and other veterinary colleagues to develop a “Safe Pets” app. In this pilot study, patients with compromised immune systems will be able to download this app to their smartphones and get information about how they can safely enjoy all the benefits of owning a pet without jeopardizing their health. The pilot is funded by Ohio State’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science L-Pilot program, which is invests in multi-college interdisciplinary teams that have the clear potential to transform health care or translational science through patient-based innovative clinical and translational research.
In addition, Dr. Curren’s educational research focuses on developing cases and methods to improve upon the way clinical skills and patient care are taught to medical students and interprofessional learners in healthcare fields. Dr. Curren is also using medical simulation to teach basic exam techniques to early medical learners and in maximizing the effectiveness of classroom educational interventions.
