Twenty-two faculty, staff and students from Ohio State participated in the 2010 AAMC Conference held November 5-6 in Washington, DC. Among the presenters at the annual meeting were Steven G. Gabbe, MD, CEO of The OSU Medical Center, and Catherine R. Lucey, MD, FACP, Interim Dean of the OSU College of Medicine. Dr. Gabbe presented, along with six other members of an advisory committee charged with reviewing the MCAT exam, on the topic “Stepping Outside the Box to measure Science Competencies and Personal Characteristics in Medical School Admissions.” The committee is about halfway through the review process.
Dr. Lucey presented on the subject, “Longitudinal Assessment of Empathy, Cynicism, Burnout, Stress, Cohesion, Psychological Safety, Learning Environment, Quality of Life and Residency Preference of Medical Students,” alongside colleagues Daniel M. Clinchot, MD, Associate Dean for Medical Education, Rollin Nagel, PhD, Education Resource Specialist and Clinical Professor, and David P. Way, MEd, Senior Research Associate.
Others presented on topics related to the theme "Promoting Engaged Learning and Scholarship across the Medical Education Continuum" in the generalists meetings, which are part of the AAMC national conference. These meetings provide a forum for the exchange of ideas and knowledge between educators who teach, conduct research and provide support services in all areas of pre-doctoral, postdoctoral and continuing medical education.
