Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital receives inaugural designation from CMS for innovative research and treatment of complex cases
The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Dodd Rehabilitation Hospital recently received the inaugural Dr. Joanne Smith Memorial Rehabilitation Innovation Centers designation from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). Dodd Hall was chosen due to its state-of-the-art treatments and personalized care to meet each patient’s unique and changing needs.
Dodd is one of 15 facilities chosen for leading the nation in medical research and complex treatment, which drives innovative research for the entire field of rehabilitation. CMS recognizes these rehabilitation centers for their care for patients with complex medical conditions, multidisciplinary rehabilitation research, integrated care for patients and education of a high number of medical residents.
John J. Warner, MD, chief executive officer of The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and executive vice president at The Ohio State University, is honored to lead an institution receiving recognition for the caliber of care patients can expect to receive at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, especially those recovering from disabilities caused by trauma, illness, congenital deficits or disease.
“Rehab plays such a critical role in patients’ recovery journey,” Dr. Warner says. “Backed by the best research, for more than 60 years our team of physicians, staff and specialists have upheld a tradition of excellence in physical rehabilitation, offering top-quality care.”
Carol R. Bradford, MD, MS, FACS, dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine, says innovative curriculum, world-class faculty and the vast resources of the institution contribute to learners and providers being thoroughly prepared to meet the challenges of the continually evolving field of medicine.
“Our focus on interdisciplinary collaboration uncovers timely and much-needed solutions to evolving health care challenges,” Dr. Bradford says. “And this allows us to translate what we learn into innovative treatments for our patients and our communities.”
Dodd is nationally ranked for its inpatient rehabilitation services. The complex encompasses a 60-bed inpatient and outpatient facility for rehab services. It is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report "Best Hospitals", and adheres to the highest national standards for quality, safety, and outcomes.
