Growing and excelling together: New residents and fellows join our academic health care system

Doctors spelling out OhioThe newest group of medical residents and fellows have begun their post-medical school training at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. 197 new residents and 117 new fellows, 34 who are recent graduates from The Ohio State University College of Medicine, just recently joined our current team to receive advanced, hands-on experiences and training to be prepared to serve the diverse and changing needs of patients and communities.

The Graduate Medical Education (GME) program offers 79 accredited programs from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) at the Wexner Medical Center. In addition, there are 94 non-ACGME accredited programs.

Scott A. Holliday, MD, associate GME dean, and Michael K. Essandoh, MD, assistant GME dean at the Ohio State College of Medicine, oversee and interface with resident and fellow trainees, program directors, department chairs and other hospital-wide stakeholders to support our trainees and provide the best clinical learning environment possible.

“Our GME community includes 938 trainees, 266 fellows and 672 residents,” Dr. Holliday says. “This year, 64 of our GME graduates are staying on as faculty members.”

Drs. Essandoh and Holliday work tirelessly to work to reduce the burnout of doctors by redesigning education and training to build resilience. Your encouragement will be invaluable as they embark on this exciting new chapter in their medical careers
