Programs for medical students
This multi-component Advanced Competency (AC) is designed to develop a comprehensive approach to addressing whole health using complementary and integrative health therapies along with conventional medicine to optimize total health and healing. It will include in-depth learning and use of evidence-based resources for integrative health therapies.
Students will become advanced learners in the philosophies, fundamentals, and therapies of Integrative Health. They also develop and describe possibilities for an integrative care plan for patients with various diseases/conditions, take time to address, develop, and practice self-care, and extend and explore their learning via projects, research or further in-depth learning.
This AC will advance the knowledge and experience of the practitioner beyond the associated clinical rotation at Ohio State Integrative Health. The intention of this AC is to develop a mindset that future practitioners will incorporate integrative medicine therapies into lifestyle and treatment for their patients and themselves.
The curriculum is delivered across the 4th year for interested medical students and involves the following: Clinical Observation/skill building (~35 hrs), Self-Care Activities/Learning (~25 hours), Experiential Learning (~6 hours), Didactic Learning (~34 hours) and Scholarly Research/Activity (~70 hours).
Please contact Dr. Diane Brogan-Habash for more details (Habash.2@osu.edu).
Fourth-year medical students are able to elect a 2 week long intensive clerkship through the Ohio State Integrative Health. This elective includes a combination of shadowing Ohio State integrative practitioners, experiential learning, independent study, and self-reflection.
