How do we leverage artificial intelligence chatbots for patient care in a way that is comfortable and safe for both patients and clinicians? The authors of this pilot study, led by Natalie Lee, MD, MPH (currently an assistant professor in General Internal Medicine at OSUMC), share their lessons learned during the development and operationalization of a prototype chatbot to support clinicians and patients with hypertension management. They propose a framework for interdisciplinary collaboration across clinical, operational, and technical teams, and they describe the innovation methodology they used to create flexible, iterative processes for development and workflow integration of the chatbot while maintaining the integrity of clinical operations.
