An elective surgical rotation at one of the largest public hospitals in New South Wales, Australia, provided Francisco “Paco” Guzman, MD, a new perspective. He explained his overall experience as one that provided a real-world glimpse into how both common and uncommon surgical diseases are managed in a healthcare environment with unique infrastructure as well as institutional and individual expertise. In Sydney, he implemented and compared different operative approaches and perioperative management styles, advancing Ohio State’s General Surgery trainee development while building on collaborative efforts between both institutions and academic surgical colleges.
