General Research

For more than four decades Dr. Corrigan’s research has focused on long-term patient outcomes from traumatic brain injury (TBI). His investigations have examined ways to optimize the use of data from the TBI Model Systems National Database, which includes 15,000 patients who received inpatient rehabilitation following medical care for moderate to severe traumatic brain injury. This research has produced findings on the five-year outcomes of patients who underwent rehabilitation following TBI as well as excess mortality resulting from TBI.

He is the director of The Ohio Valley Center for Brain Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation. Its mission is to provide education and develop programs to improve the quality of life for persons who experience traumatic brain injury. Dr. Corrigan also directs the Ohio Brain Injury Program, the state of Ohio’s lead agency for policy and planning related to living with the effects of a brain injury.
