Current Research

My lab is interested in investigating the mechanisms by which innate immunity protects the lung against infectious and non-infectious injury and inflammation. Currently, I am investigating the role of macrophage in regulating the initiation and propagation of pulmonary fibrosis. 

Research Techniques

I use both murine models of pulmonary fibrosis as well as primary tissue collected from patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis to investigate the role of macrophages in regulating the initiation, propagation and resolution of excess extracellular matrix deposition in the lung. We examine macrophage functionality using in vitro and in vivo model systems, identify specific macrophage subpopulations within the lung using flow cytometry, and measure gene expression using molecular biological methods.
