Naleef Fareed, PhD, is an associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Informatics and Health Services Management and Policy (courtesy appointment). He is a faculty affiliate with the Translational Data Analytics Institute and James Cancer Control Program.
Naleef is an internationally recognized expert in clinical and public health informatics research focused on health decision making. He has examined design, use, and implementation of informatics tools such as electronic health record systems, dashboards, patient portals, and smartphone applications. His research – disseminated and used by researchers, clinical care teams, health informatic firms, and policymakers – identifies and investigates transformational informatics-based solutions that overcome obstacles to high quality health outcomes.
Naleef earned his PhD from the Medical College of Virginia in health services and organizational research, and holds an MBA (with an operational health care management focus) from Union College and received training in entrepreneurship for biomedicine from Washington University in St. Louis. Naleef’s leadership has been recognized through his service to numerous international, national, and regional scientific and advisory committees, including his engagement as a consultant to health informatic start-ups. Naleef is the author of over 100 peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings focused on the intersection of clinical and public health informatics. His research portfolio is actively supported by a combination of AHRQ, NIDA, NIA, NCI, and NIH grants, as well as state agency contracts. He is the Associate Editor for the Health Informatics Journal. Naleef maintains an active mentoring program, with several mentees securing research and consulting positions at leading health care organizations.
