Support to conduct innovative research drives the abilities and outcomes of investigations at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Encouraging and supporting learners, researchers and faculty in the investigative process leads to discovery and the translation of biomedical findings into breakthrough health care solutions. A recent seminar hosted by the university’s Research Commons was led by Jessica Gradeci, senior engagement partner at Sage Publishing, on Sage Campus — an online learning platform with online courses on research methods, case studies and learning modules on how to navigate and organize data and get research findings published. She provided a comprehensive picture of resources available:

  • The ability to review case studies to learn from experienced researchers, learn about their approaches and decisions made throughout the process.
  • Learning modules on research design and planning and presenting at conferences.
  • How to navigate research funding and develop ideas that turn into scholarship.
  • Data visualization resources and skills training in digital resource methods, best practices for using big data throughout the research process.
  • Practical guides on how to accomplish specific research tasks, build the foundation of a project and understand digital literacy using accessible methods.
  • Help with developing research questions or evaluating already formed ones.
  • Personalized research help, dedicated collaborative spaces in Research Commons and places to publish and preserve work in the Knowledge Bank.

All can access the SAGE subscription to participate in structured online learning to develop skills and research methods, which are self-paced and instructor-led.
