Four Ohio State College of Medicine programs recognized among top 50 globally in US News subject rankings

U.S. News & World Report has released its 2026-27 Best Global Universities rankings, which compare 2,250 leading institutions worldwide based on academic research performance and international reputation.

As part of these rankings, U.S. News also publishes the Best Global Universities subject rankings, which evaluate research performance across 51 subject areas using global and regional reputation scores and bibliometric data, including number of research publications and citation impact.

"We’re proud to see our programs recognized among the best in the world,” says Amy M. Moore, MD, interim dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine. “These rankings reflect the innovation and collaboration of our faculty, staff and learners, whose research is advancing discovery and shaping the future of medicine."

Four subject areas connected to the Ohio State College of Medicine ranked among the top 50 globally. They are:

  • No. 20 in oncology, including gynecologic, neurological, surgical, radiological, oral and dermatological oncology
  • No. 22 in surgery, including organ transplantation, plastic and reconstructive surgery, microsurgery, minimally invasive surgery, trauma surgery, surgical pathology and surgical technology
  • No. 49 in clinical medicine, encompassing a range of medical and biomedical specialties
  • No. 50 in psychiatry/psychology, including applied, biological, organizational and social psychology, as well as the identification and treatment of psychiatric disorders

These rankings reflect the college’s continued investment in research excellence and interdisciplinary discovery, and its impact on delivering world-class care in our communities. They also highlight the contributions of our faculty, physicians and staff in driving innovations to address tomorrow’s health challenges.
