Hear from our administrator
Welcome to the Department of Pharmacy at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. We are glad you are taking the time to learn more about us. We hope to interest you in a pharmacy practice career, or in one of our American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP)-accredited pharmacy residency programs.
We operate an enterprise-wide pharmacy model, staffed by a highly-skilled team of administrators, pharmacists and technicians who provide outstanding, state-of-the-art patient care. We all come to work every day to improve the lives of our patients by advising our staff on the best use of medications, safeguarding our patients from medication errors and transforming pharmacy practice in health-systems. We are guided in this mission by our strategic plan that focuses on five key priorities: optimizing our pharmacy information system, refining our practice model, enhancing our medication safety program, establishing the pharmacy as a workplace of choice in central Ohio and refining our academic relationships and department scholarship. Our department’s strategic plan maps our steps for the next year, and provides us with many opportunities to enhance our patient care responsibilities, take on greater educational roles and demonstrate the value of pharmacists in the vision for personalized healthcare.
Our inpatient pharmacists and technicians practice in acute patient care areas, and in a variety of specialties. Ambulatory care pharmacy services are provided through pharmacist-managed clinics, specialty and detail pharmacy services for patients receiving high-risk medication for serious medical conditions. Our practice, teaching and scholarship missions are additionally enhanced through our collaborative relationship with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, which along with our dean, Henry J. Mann, is among the country's top ten pharmacy schools as reported by U.S. News & World Report.
Training future generations of pharmacists is a vital part of our mission. Our pharmacists serve as preceptors for our residency programs while providing experiential training for Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) students. Our residency program has a nearly 60-year tradition of excellence with our graduates being well-prepared to work at a high-level in a wide-variety of institutional and ambulatory patient care facilities. The Department of Pharmacy, in partnership with The Ohio State University College of Pharmacy, strives to develop the best clinical specialists and provide a residency program that is recognized nationally for the quality and excellence of its graduates. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive experience for our residents.
