WIMS Engagement Award

This award is given annually to 1-2 current or past member of WIMS who have demonstrated an impact on the development of WIMS and/or its members. Nominations are reviewed based on service, mentorship, and engagement in WIMS activities. Calls for self or peer-initiated nominations occur in the summer, followed by formal presentation annually at the Fall WIMS Welcome and Welcome Back Event.

WIMS Ally Award

This award is given annually to a WIMS ally who has positively impacted their field, organization, or community. Nominations are reviewed based on i) demonstrated commitment to accelerating the advancement of women in medicine and science, ii) creation of environments where women from all backgrounds are welcomed and valued, iii) actions to support the advancement of women in their field, organization, or community, and iv) correction of barriers to inclusion of women within their field, organization, or community. Calls for peer-initiated nominations occur in the winter, and the award is formally presented annually at the Spring WIMS Annual Celebration.

Emerging Leader in Healthcare Award

This monetary award is given annually to a faculty member seeking to strengthen their healthcare leadership, professional or career development, and/or business acumen skills, through a major healthcare leadership opportunity. Applications are reviewed based on i) clarity of leadership goals ii) demonstrated aptitude and interest in leadership and iii) potential for leadership in healthcare administration. Calls for self-initiated applications occur in the fall, with the recipient notified in December. The award is formally presented annually at the Spring WIMS Annual Celebration.

Buckeye Shining Star Recognition

New in 2024 (previously Emerging Leader Award), recognition is provided annually for early to mid-career women-identifying faculty who warrant recognition for any of the following: i) exceptional role models for trainees, ii) dependable, trustworthy providers of formal or informal peer support, iii) contributors to building community within and/or outside of OSUCOM, iv) providers of service to the division, department, or university at large, v) noteworthy educators or curricular developers, vi) consistent quality preceptors for trainees. Calls for nominations by department leaders occur in the winter, and the faculty are formally recognized annually at the Spring WIMS Annual Celebration. Encourage nomination of underrecognized faculty.

Awards Sponsored by Women in Medicine and Science

All WIMS members are encouraged to apply for the AAMC Early-Career and Mid-Career Seminars. Interested faculty should apply directly through AAMC and refer to the AAMC website for application deadlines. WIMS has a small budget that can be used to help offset costs not covered by an individual’s department or division. Any faculty member accepted to a seminar should email WIMS@osumc.edu to be considered for a funding award. Please note, only active WIMS members are eligible to apply for these funds.
