Featured Story
COVID-19 and Diabetes
The pandemic that has infiltrated the lives of millions of people worldwide, COVID-19, doesn’t play well with preexisting health conditions, including diabetes and hypertension, which are all too common in our population. Research studies over the past months have shown that people with underlying health conditions who contract the virus are likely to experience more serious complications and require hospitalization. Here’s what you can do to protect yourself and/or someone you know with diabetes.
Researcher Spotlight
Joshua Joseph, MD, FAHA
When a family member passed away from complications of type 2 diabetes, Dr. Joseph knew he had to do something to help. In this issue, we take a closer look at his background and the research projects that bring science and research out of the lab and into people’s lives.
Research Update
New Treatment for Diabetes and Identifying a Trigger in Heart Failure
Our DMRC researchers continue to look for ways to improve the lives of our patients. In this issue, we highlight recently published research from Ouliana Ziouzenkova, PhD, and Prabhakara Nagareddy, PhD, MPharm.
Clinical Trials
Adapting as We Go
Within the DMRC, clinical trials present an important platform for research and breakthroughs. Even now, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, researchers are making the necessary adjustments to either continue their trials or prepare to resume them following the end of social distancing orders. Kathleen Dungan, MD, associate director of clinical services in the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, provides an update on a number of ongoing and exciting trials.
